Tour De Cure 2012 —— Brisbane to Mission Beach

May 2, 2012

Tour de Cure is a cycling foundation dedicated to raising funds for the fight against cancer. Since 2007 the Tour de Cure has raised in excess of $6million to help fund vital Cancer research, support and prevention projects helping men, women and children.

Cancer does not discriminate as we unfortunately know all to well. Our mission is simple – to cure cancer. We are committed to inspiring Australian communities to help raise the awareness and funds to one day find a cure for this disease. In 2012 we have set an ambitious target of raising $2million.

Raising awareness around cancer prevention has taken on new meaning for the Tour de Cure since our Co-Founder Gary Bertwistle co-authored 2 books – ‘Stickman Rules – Let’s DO Well’ and ‘What I Wish I Knew About Cancer‘. These books are designed to engage kids and their parents in the knowledge that cancer can be prevented if we make healthy lifestyle choices.

BE FIT, BE HEALTHY, BE HAPPY is the message in our Kids book (Stickman Rules) which was very well received last year when we visited 14 schools and presented to over 3,000 primary school kids on our 2011 tour from Sydney to Melbourne.

In 2012 our goal is to share this message with 10,000 kids which we will do via our new Cancer Awareness for Country Kids Tours. These four day country tours in NSW, VIC and QLD will help us share this vital message with our neighbours in the bush who traditionally don’t have the access or opportunity to be involved in these sorts of programs.

We are gearing up for our sixth annual signature Tour which will see a team of 80 riders and support crew take on 1,660 kilometres from Brisbane to Mission Beach from 3rd to 13th May.

Everyone in the team makes an enormous commitment to be part of the Tour. Each rider pledges $2,000 of their own money and commits to raising an additional $10,000 through various fundraising events and with the support from their families, friends, colleagues and local communities. Our incredibly valuable support crew also commit to raising a minimum of $3,000 each and all volunteer their time for the duration of the Tour.

The Tour is not just a cycling event, but is a year long journey for everyone involved. This letter is to confirm that Byron Smith has been a Tour de Cure rider and passionate ambassador for the past 2 years and will be returning to the team for a Signature Tour in 2012. Please support Byron in his fundraising efforts and be part of finding a cure for cancer.
